A Trillion Tons of Hope

The goodbyes were happening. The sound of tiny plastic wheels rolling under the weight of a weeks worth of clothes and honking horns bounced off the concrete walls of San Diego International Airport. We were crossing the finish line of a short term mission to Mexico. Our team from Florida would make their way home while I would cross the border back to where we had gone. With a few hugs and final photos together, I was on my way.

Just like that. A van that was full of laughing, rowdy teens, and Mariachi music was now silent. The sleepy heads and smiling faces that were in the rear view mirror were no longer there. Coincidentally, June Gloom was in full swing. That So-Cal fog that lingers and feels as though your driving through the sky. Don’t worry I’m not about to go emo on you right now but something hit me.

James wasn’t kidding when he said “Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” (James 4:14) While in the “mist” of life it feels like your career will never end. Your friends will always be there. Or your health will always be the same. But who’s to say that couldn’t all change in a moment.

A month ago I would have never guessed I’d be writing this laying on a floor mattress in a 10×10 cottage in a Mexican desert valley. Never crossed my mind! And rather than using this as a scare tactic, (as some do) I think this should invoke hope. Hope for the future. Yes. But also hope for the present. That knowing we’ll see Christ face to face, this changes how you live the day. Not living for self but rather living for Him holds our breath of life.

Please pray for me as I’m in Ensenada, Mexico. I am serving on Calvary Chapel Bible College Mexico’s staff as an intern with 15 other members. The vision here is God sized and there is always work to be done. With anticipation I look forward to what God will do and holding fast our Anchor of Hope.
