What I Do

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters..." Colossians 3:23
Video Production

If there was ever a way in our time to reach a LARGE audience, and by large I mean literally throughout the world, it's through the element of video. It's also my most valued work at CCBC Mexico.  I film our large events throughout the year including our 200 person weekend event Open House, Orientation week, and Semester Recap. Other videos that are shot through the semester year include, developing our signature theme and design, conducting interviews with visiting missionaries, students/graduates, and teachers. I also record and edit weekly classes for our online school and develop new ways to share through the avenue of video, what God is doing at our college.

Video production is both effective and also very time consuming. For the last 10 years our college has functioned primarily through website alone. In the last 2.5 years, by God's grace, we've been able to develop a "web presence". Churches and communities have alike have informed us of their discovery of CCBC Mexico through video and we've had new students join our camping after learning about who we are and literally seeing what God is doing here. In order to produce a video that is say 4 mins long many factors effect how long the process will be. For instance if you head over to the GALLERY under the MORE tab you will find a list of videos I've made. Our interview videos, were filmed in multiple locations over a period of 2-3 days. Film time is estimated around 8 hours alone. That includes scheduling, talking with the interviewee, scouting locations, driving to locations, the shooting process, and set up of equipment (lighting, microphones, etc.). This does not include the editing process which for one of the 4 min interview videos, took all of 30-40 hours.

In case you are unfamiliar with the process of editing allow me to give you some specifics of why this process can be arduous. As you film a video there are variety of random shots, transitions, and camera movements that are required to make video maintain a steady flow and tell a story. Within the process, 60+ video shots and angles would have been required and need to all be watched and assessed of whether it is usable or not. These clips are uploaded onto a program that I use called Adobe Premiere Pro. I then must choose appropriate music to match the flow of a video. Choosing a song that is not copy written and protected by youtube or social media must be investigated. I must go through the each video frame by frame matching music to video to assure a flow. Unique transitions where the camera whips or does something special, is edited through another program called Adobe after effects. Creating a simple 2 second transition, movement, gesture or effect could take 45 mins or more. (Namely that each clip is adjusted pixel per pixel, effects added which include measurements, timing, depth perception, and variety of other ratios) With the interviewee, I do my best to nail a topic and discussion. This could take 30 mins or an hour plus. I then edit the audio to either chronologically or adjust to properly tell story. Audio must be adjusted and assessed for noise and clarity. Each clip used must be white balanced and taken through a color grading process to give the video it's overall cinematic image. Rendering and downloading alone consume much time and I haven't mentioned that all our videos are for a bilingual audience and must be translated and caption added frame by frame.

As I mentioned before, make sure to check out some of my work under gallery.

Website Design

So now that we've covered what takes a HUGE amount of attention and detail in video production allow me to cover my other responsibilities of design for our campus. One of the larger and more practical needs in this area of the Baja, is Website design. An area which was surprising and yet needful. Since I've moved full time to Ensenada in 2015 I've developed 3 websites for our college. Not including the bilnigual version of each.  As an expanding college and steady influx new information, many changes are required weekly to each website. (html coding, ftp host maintenance, page format/design for desktop and mobile, etc.)

As I serve at CCBC Mexico, the Lord has made opportunities to serve other ministries through website design as well. I've designed 2 web versions for our local church's Mission ministry 'Horizonte Global'. 2 versions for a local rehabilitation/discipleship center, and another children's and family ministry in the Tijuana area. The Lord is good to provide for these practical needs!

Social Media

As a college, there is a need to maintain web presence. In today's age the number one way to share who you are and what's happening is through social media. I maintain all of our Social Media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) Which is a little different than maintaining a personal profile. Where you simply post or like photos that you prefer. With running a page with a large audience. We must plan each post, design graphics, and strategically plan for engagement. Which is a lot like running a small business or advertisement.

Since joining the staff in 2015 I've been working to develop a team of individuals that would be able to produce creative material through graphic design, video/photography and writing. Part of my dream for this team is for it's core to be Mexican Nationals. Our existing members are bilingual. I hope to one day have a team of Nationals that are producing they're own material in departments of creativity. And what an amazing opportunity for discipleship! It has been such a blessing to not only train our team members in the aesthetics but also in the Lord. To pray for and be a voice of encouragement in this time they are training in the Word of God for 2 years.

Graphic Design

As it has been mentioned there is a need for all around creative design. To be able to voice what is happening within the ministry through words (blog) and through visual (the arts). I would say the top if not the most exciting part of my job is developing the theme of our College Semesters. As a staff we pray over and decide on a theme to be our 'marching song' during the 4 month semester that students are training in the scriptures. For instance, the theme of our spring semester of 2017 was Por Fe Andamos (Walk by Faith). During this semester we held an OPEN HOUSE event to invite unsaved persons and individuals interested in attending our school.  I then created our design that would best depict a life of walking by faith. Along with this came the design for 75 tshirts, 12 foot banner, web and screen designs, form registration and an assortment of other prints.

It is an absolute pleasure to pray through and design art that will set a tone of inspiration unto the Lord. In case you are wondering how exactly does a design inspire... one of our students was so impacted regarding this call to "Walk by Faith" and experiencing this in his own personal story that now after graduation he wants to have the design tattooed! Whether you agree or not with the idea of tattoos is neither here nor there, though the impact of this theme, Walk by Faith, was so moving in this young man's life he, quite literally, has been marked by it.

Magazine

Another surprising and yet satisfying joy is to create material that accurately expresses what God is doing at our college via printed magazine. As we were praying about how to share with others what an amazing impact CCBC is having on young men and women. The Lord inspired us to begin a printed and digital magazine to that would give platform for story, testimony, biblical content and mission awareness. We have printed 2 issues over the last year and the word is spreading throughout Mexico and beyond about what God is doing.

When I moved to Mexico I envisioned working operational procedures and construction projects at our college, yet unbeknownst to me, he has laid before me this vision to share what He is doing in Mexico through magazine. As I pray and seek the Lord's guidance regarding this endeavor He has expanded my vision from the Baja to all of Latin America. You see the vision of CCBC Mexico is to be "a place where believers are rooted deeply in God's Word and raised up by Him to reach the World for Christ"...as graduates move back to their home states through out Mexico (Jalisco, Chiapas, Sonora, Chihuahua, Puebla, and many more) the Lord is continuing the story through them in ministry. And not only will the work be heard and felt in those states throughout this great country of Mexico, I believe what God is doing here will be heard around the world. What an exciting vision from the Lord! Please pray for us as we write, create and give voice to God's story.
